Fashion Design Assignment: MOROCCAN ROLL

In my school, on Saturday each student has to join some sort of extracurricular lessons, one to improve our language skills and one to improve our creativity. We are obliged to join these 'extracurriculars' as the grades are to be put in our reports. And for my Saturday subjects, I chose Japanese and Fashion Design (FD for short).

I've had a great time during these lessons, and I have to say that I really love FD. Basically I love fashion and everything related to it, so I found it very exciting. In my three years of senior high school, on the beginning of each academic year, I chose Japanese and FD over and over again. But now, I only want to tell you about FD. My partners in crime during these three whole years are
Shenca Adelaprianca (Shenca), Febriani Tirtokentjono (Febi), Maria Dwindita (Indy), and Christina Margaretha (Christy).

First year in FD. The students are taught to draw women figures and design clothes for women. Simply easy. Second year in FD. Taught to draw men figures and design clothes for men. Quite challenging. Third year in FD. Taught to draw children figures and design clothes for children. Who knows that children figures are the hardest to draw? My teacher, Kak Erin, tells us to make a storyboard consisting of our figures and designs--so this year I'm making a children storyboard.

Storyboard is like a presentation board. A theme is chosen for the main concept, then we have to search for pictures supporting the theme itself. After that, we make figures and designs, and we choose some colors that match the clothes to be put in our color swatches. Finally, we arrange everything onto a board an put a short writing to deliver the concept.

Since we have to make a storyboard by ourselves, we only made it in the size of an A4 paper.

My theme was Morocco. The title is 'Moroccan Roll', got the name from a famous track played by Vanessa Mae. Pictures speaks louder than words, so here it is, my storyboard!

For the designs, I got inspired by a town called Chefchaoen. It's a town where every building is made out of blue bricks. It's so pretty! That's why
half of my designs are completely blue. And for the other half, I imagine them as Moroccan travelers and those designs just popped out from my mind.

I guess this is my best storyboard so far, I got good scores for this one! Well, all five of use got good scores, but the best is Shenca. She got 9,9! And it's all because she forgot to collect hers to Kak Erin on the due date, so she had to collect it a week later. She's so creative and her children figures are just so cool! Her theme was Tim Burton's Halloween, shortened as 'Burtonween'. The designs are playful and unique. You should've seen her storyboard. Hers is 10 times better than mine.

I have many portfolios of my past assignments, so I'll post them someday. I have to fill this blog with something useful after all (not that these pictures are useful anyway). :P
